© St. Petersburg Times, GraduationsRyan W. Simpson, a 1998 graduate of East Lake High School, graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University. He received a bachelor's degree in aviation management and professional flight. He ranked No. 1 in his major and completed his degree in three years. He received a full academic scholarship and was named an Aldredge Endowment Scholar, Auburn Alumni Scholar and Alfred Aldrich Honors Scholar. He was an officer in the Eta Mu Sigma Aviation Honor Society, member of the Golden Key Honor Society and was an Honors College Congress representative. Simpson recently completed flight and instrument instructor certification. He is the son of Bill and Kim Simpson of Palm Harbor. Ryan McGuffie Logue, a 1997 graduate of Clearwater Central Catholic High School, graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in marketing. He held several offices in the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity, including vice president of public relations. He is an associate in training at H&R Block financial advisers in Clearwater. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Dennis C. Logue of Clearwater. Honors and awardsDavid L. McAvoy, a 1999 summa cum laude graduate of Pinellas Park High School, has been named a McNair Post Baccalaureate Research Scholar. His research was presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research and his thesis was published in the conference proceedings. McAvoy has a 4.0 grade point average and is double majoring in English literature and history at the University of South Florida. He is a USF Jenkins Scholar, National Collegiate Scholar, Florida Academic Scholar, USF Undergraduate Research Scholar and a USF Overseas Study Compass Scholar. The USF McNair Scholars Program awarded McAvoy a scholarship to the International Summer School at the University of Cambridge in England, where he is currently studying. He has also studied at USF's overseas program in Berlin. He is the son of Joyce and George Larocque of Clearwater. Nicole Grim, an eighth-grader at Largo Middle School, has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. The honor recognizes academic achievement. She is the daughter of Jere and Susan Grim of Largo.
