Two hundred grants of $250 each are available to private and public school teachers in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties in need of classroom supplies. The $50,000 grant is being offered by Allegany Franciscan Foundation, a grantmaking institution of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y.
Applications can be found on the foundation's Web site, www.franciscanfdn.org. Completed applications should be faxed to the foundation's Clearwater office at 507-8557 by Sept. 30.

Students in grades six through 12 are invited to an open house Sept. 8 to preview the Saturday enrichment program of the Youth Engineering Society Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Education. The open house begins at 9 a.m. at both Lakewood High School and at the St. Petersburg College Clearwater campus.
The society's Saturday enrichment program meets from 9 a.m. to noon from September to May. The program is designed to encourage minority students to pursue careers in engineering, science and technology.
Students receive enrichment instruction in math, science, communication and technology and take field trips to area businesses, museums and colleges.
The program is funded as a joint project of the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg College and Pinellas County schools. For information, call consortium's county coordinator Rose Mack, 893-2926.
St. Vincent's Episcopal Preschool, 5442 Ninth Ave. N, has been granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
NAEYC accreditation, achieved by only 7 percent of early childhood programs nationwide, is a rigorous, voluntary process. Institutions must demonstrate that they meet national standards of excellence in health and safety, staffing, staff qualifications and physical environment.
Other NAEYC accredited programs in St. Petersburg include Riviera Day School, the three Head Start centers and the YWCA Child Development Center.
