Hillsborough: For the fans

TV: The Plant-Hillsborough opening-season game (Aug. 31) will be televised live on Sunshine Network statewide. Time Warner Channel 47 will air games on a tape-delayed process at 10:30 p.m. every Friday night in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties with encore presentations at 9 p.m. on the following Saturday, Sunday and Wednesdays. Here is the schedule for the first nine weeks of the season. Time Warner will choose the best game available for the remaining week and playoffs.

CLASSIFICATIONS Teams are divided by enrollment into six classes of roughly an equal number of schools, ranging from Class 6A (the largest) to Class A (the smallest).

STATE PLAYOFFS: District champions and runners-up advance from the 12 districts in each classification. Eight at-large teams also will make the playoffs in each class, based on record and schedule strength. The playoffs begin Nov. 9. The state championship games are scheduled for Dec. 6-8 at Florida State in Tallahassee.

SCHEDULES: Each team's schedule is listed with its preview. The FHSAA has schedules for every team in the state at its Web site,, and will update with results during the season.
