If the 1999 and 2000 seasons were pitched to FOX as a new television series, it would be entitled When Schedules Attack.

If the 1999 and 2000 seasons were pitched to FOX as a new television series, it would be entitled When Schedules Attack.

Consider:

Sept. 10, 1999: Tampa Catholic 58, Wesley Chapel 6. Leading 45-6 in the third quarter, the Crusaders' Donnie McBath ran a 43-yard fake punt into the end zone. TC coach Bob Henriquez claimed it was a miscommunication.

"When you're up, you're up and when you're down, you're down," Henriquez said afterward.

Sept. 24, 1999: Jefferson 50, Zephyrhills 13. Dragons coach Mike Simmonds fired four offensive assistants and simplified the offense beforehand. The result: 551 yards.

"You can write whatever you want and it would be right," Zephyrhills coach Tom Fisher said afterward.

Oct. 22, 1999: Jefferson 41, Hudson 9. Dragons quarterback Cameron Rodgers threw for 134 yards and a touchdown, ran for 112 yards and two more TDs and two extra points for Hudson's Homecoming.

"We need to work on that part of our game," Simmonds said then of his passing attack.

Sept. 8, 2000: Hillsborough 50, River Ridge 0. The Terriers: 425 offensive yards. The Royal Knights: -13. "We went down quickly," River Ridge coach Mike DeGennaro said then. "Once the ball started rolling, it was rolling against us."

Sept. 8, 2000: Jefferson 51, Pasco 12. Dragons quarterback Matt Glavich, a former Pirate junior varsity product, returns home to Dade City and is a perfect 9 of 9 for 151 yards and three touchdowns. He even runs in a score. Jefferson left its starters in the entire game, racked up 10 unsportsmanlike penalties and passed out district championship hats in the fourth quarter.

For the first time in Pasco's 75 years of football, the running clock begins.

"It's been one of those seasons," Pirates coach Ricky Thomas said afterward.
