Thursday rocks for big Central Park concerts.
Remember the famous Diana Ross show in Central Park, the one where she performed in torrential rain? Thursday, July 21, 1983.
While Simon and Garfunkel did their big reunion show on a Saturday in 1981, Paul Simon returned to the park for a solo show on Thursday, Aug. 15, 1991, in front of an estimated 750,000 fans. "There are people as far as the eye can see," Simon said.
Country superstar Garth Brooks pulled in several hundred thousand fans to Central Park on Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, for a free concert broadcast live on HBO.
What's in a name?
Count Basie, Jim Croce and Country Joe & the Fish each recorded songs titled Thursday.
David Bowie, Jimmy Buffett and Brian Eno each recorded albums with "Thursday" in the title: Thursday's Child (CD Single 1999); Buffett Live: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (1999); and Thursday Afternoon (1985), respectively.
Not lucky for everyone
The rock band Van Halen introduced its third lead singer (after David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar) on Thursday, March 12, 1998. Alas, there was no Thursday magic. Gary Cherone, formerly of Extreme, has left the band.
