Cheap Thrills

When you want good food at bargain prices, you don't worry about fancy service or atmosphere. Chris Sherman designates Nibbler favorites where you can eat happily for $10 or less as Cheap Thrills.

Mazzaro Coffee and Italian Market

The huge red brick oven churning out peasant loves of rustic bread is the heart and hearth of this Whole-Italy grocery all day long. At noon, the action heats up at the deli counter, where you order husky subs or hot-pressed foccacia sandwiches, and the espresso bar, where you settle in with your prize. Those of more restrained appetite can browse through the olive oils, wines, cheeses and pasta or stock up on take-out entrees, breads and big-city cookies to go. On Saturdays, there's live music -- but not enough room to dance in the aisles. Mazzaro's is at 2909 22nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg. (727) 321-2400.
