Hope still stable

Bob Hope continued to respond well to treatment for bacterial pneumonia and will be well enough to go home from a Burbank, Calif., hospital in a few days, his doctor, Lee Kagan, said. Hope, 98, was in stable condition. Ward Grant, his longtime publicist, said the comedian seemed to be in good spirits even though he was unable to communicate well.

Misc.

Janet Jackson canceled a rescheduled concert in Philadelphia tonight because of a nagging respiratory infection. This is the 10th show on the tour to be either canceled or postponed. Jackson is scheduled at the Ice Palace on Sept. 11. . . . Variety editor Peter Bart, suspended from his job this month for making disparaging comments about minorities and gays, will be allowed to return to work Sept. 10, but he must attend diversity training.

Meanwhile, producers reprimanded Nicole for threatening to kill Will if he betrayed her. She later said she was joking. Producers kicked out contestant Justin Sebik in July after he held a knife to another female contestant's throat and said, "Would you get mad if I killed you?"
