CLASS 5A, DISTRICT 7

1. EAST LAKE: Thank you, new district. No more Hillsborough or Chamberlain.

2. CLEARWATER: Continuity with coaches and players should lead to a playoff berth.

3. PINELLAS PARK: With more talent and size, Patriots should improve on 2-8.

4. PALM HARBOR U.: Hurricanes inexperienced at almost every offensive position.

CLASS 5A, DISTRICT 8

1. SEMINOLE: The skill players are gone, but there still is enough talent to win.

2. GIBBS: Offense again will be exciting, but can the defense stop anyone?

3. NORTHEAST: Lying in the weeds? Austin has young squad ready to compete.

4. ST. PETERSBURG: New coach, new attitude. But is there enough depth?

5. BOCA CIEGA: The Pirates will try to throw, but size could be a problem.

CLASS 4A, DISTRICT 9

1. TARPON SPRINGS: Speed everywhere on offense and a much improved defense.

2. LAKEWOOD: Closed 2000 with four consecutive wins, looking to keep momentum.

3. COUNTRYSIDE: Large senior class going for fourth consecutive playoff berth.

4. DIXIE HOLLINS: Talent on both sides could mean big things for the Rebels.

5. LARGO: Seven returning starters won't be enough in this tough district.

6. DUNEDIN: Program continuing to improve, but no room to breathe here.

CLASS 2A, DISTRICT 7

1. CC CATHOLIC: Tons of talent gone, running game now key to offense.

*2. ST. PETERSBURG CATHOLIC: Appealing ban on state playoffs for recruiting.

3. BERKELEY PREP: With SPC's ban, first playoff berth since 1985 possible.

4. TAMPA CATHOLIC: Trying to rebound under new coach Jim Guderian.

CLASS A, DISTRICT 8

1. SHORECREST: Only four players graduated from 2000 playoff squad.

2. ADMIRAL FARRAGUT: Aiming for first-ever district title and playoff berth.

3. KESWICK CHR.: Do not overlook the Crusaders, who have good upperclassmen.

4. NORTHSIDE CHR.: Should be tougher but lacks numbers for run at district.

5. INDIAN ROCKS CHR.: Eagles will be more competitive but still lack depth.
