TOP TIER

By Times staff

© St. Petersburg Times, published September 1, 2000

TOP TIER

Peyton Manning ... should be better than his 26 TDs.

Kurt Warner ... won't get 41 this year, but still.

Brett Favre ... should throw 28 to 30 TDs this season.

Brad Johnson ... come on, the Redskins offense is quite good.

Steve McNair ... was the Super Bowl his coming out party?

SECOND ROUND

Rich Gannon ... remember, he threw 24 TDs last year.

Steve Beuerlein ... in 1999 he accounted for 38 TDs

Tim Couch ... some say he's on the verge of erupting.

Drew Bledsoe ... should still be good despite the loss of Coates.

Vinny Testaverde ... remember how good he was before the injury?

KEEP IN MIND

Mark Brunell ... has to have more than the 15 TDs he produced in 1999.

RUNNING BACKS

TOP TIER

Edgerrin James ... should be the No. 1 pick overall.

Marshall Faulk ... should be the No. 2 pick overall.

Fred Taylor ... if healthy, could get 15 TDs.

James Stewart ... will be the main ball carrier in Detroit.

Eddie George ... big, strong, fast and good for 10 TDs.

SECOND ROUND

Tyrone Wheatley ... surprise of last season with 11 TDs.

Leroy Hoard ... seems Vikings' only option close to the goal line.

Emmitt Smith ... the old man still has a few left in the legs.

Stephen Davis ... the 'Skins will remember his 17 TDs last season.

Mike Alstott ... Les Steckel plans to ride the A Train.

KEEP IN MIND

Ron Dayne ... Heisman winner is a perfect fit for the Giants.

RECEIVERS

TOP TIER

Randy Moss ... arguably the premier receiver in the draft.

Cris Carter ... all he does is catch touchdowns.

Marvin Harrison ... Marvin is Manning's main man.

Antonio Freeman ... who else is Favre going to throw to?

Isaac Bruce ... should prove last season was no fluke

SECOND ROUND

Keyshawn Johnson ... surely he'll bring some big plays to the Bucs

Marcus Robinson ... he had nine touchdowns last season on a bad team

Michael Westbrook ... worthy if the 'Skins live up to their billing

Tim Brown ... has slipped, but too good to ignore

Joey Galloway ... expect a revitalization now that he's a Cowboy

KEEP IN MIND

Muhsin Muhammad ... his eight scores last season make him a solid pick

TIGHT ENDS

TOP TIER

Tony Gonzalez ... should be one TD better than Walls this year

Wesley Walls ... grabbed 12 touchdowns last season

Rickey Dudley ... is projected to make another leap forward

Shannon Sharpe ... Tony Banks or Trent Dilfer, he'll still be productive

Bubba Franks ... Mark who?

SECOND ROUND

Dave Moore ... Les Steckel is supposed to love tight ends

David LaFleur ... showed moments of brilliance last season

Frank Wychek ... solid, consistent and capable.

Ben Coates ... will back up Sharpe, but still very good

Roland Williams ... remember, Kurt Warner is his quarterback

KEEP IN MIND

Byron Chamberlain ... a new era begins in Denver

KICKERS

TOP TIER

Mike Vanderjagt ... he could top last season's 145 points

Sebastian Janikowski ... immediately the best leg in the league

Olindo Mare ... was 3-for-5 from 50 yards and beyond

Mike Hollis ... converted 81.6 percent of his kicks last season

Todd Peterson ... was 14-for-16 in attempts between 40 and 49 yards

SECOND ROUND

Martin Gramatica ... an improved Bucs offense means a lot to him

Jason Elam ... anyone who kicks in Mile High is good

Brett Conway ... the 'Skins are supposed to put points on the board

Ryan Longwell ... If the Pack is back, so is he

Al Del Greco ... good for 100 points every season

KEEP IN MIND

Matt Stover ... was 7-for-7 between 40 and 49 yards

TEAMS

TOP TIER

Bucs ... three All-Pros, plus Donnie Abraham

Rams ... scored 11 TDs with offense on the sideline

Jaguars ... were fourth in the NFL in total defense

Titans ... two words, Jevon Kearse

Chiefs ... they have a way of returning interceptions all the way

SECOND ROUND

Redskins ... two more words, LaVar Arrington

Ravens ... unlikely that Jermaine Lewis will be shut out this season

Eagles ... Brian Mitchell will help their return game

Jets ... scored four times on defense last season

Cardinals ... Eric Swann is gone, but Aeneas Williams isn't

KEEP IN MIND

Patriots ... if anything, Bill Belichick knows defense
