Jim Leavitt Q&A

Q: You have cut practices short by a few minutes every day this week (an average of about 10 minutes). Any particular reason?

A: We went through two-a-days longer than we ever have before and they've worked hard. They need to get their legs back as best as possible. That's the reason. I didn't cut too much, if you think about it. What makes it not a problem is that we have a number of guys that have been around for a while. If I had just all freshmen playing, I would be concerned about it.

Q: Is (senior defensive back) Anthony Henry going to play wide receiver?

A: He could. We've got him ready at receiver. He's one of the better athletes on our team and we think we need to keep looking at ways to get him the ball and get him to help us try to win a football game. He's just too good. We've worked him at quarterback, wide receiver, safety, corner and returning punts. He's a defensive player ... we would put him in in certain situations on offense.

Q: There was a battle for the punter's position during preseason. Where does that stand?

A: Devin Sanderson is our starter. If something happens, we'll go with Bill Gramatica. Eric (Schaum) is not a bad punter, but he just needs more consistency.

Q: What is the prevailing feeling among the players heading into Saturday's game?

A: We need to play. I think we'll be as ready as we're ever going to be Saturday.
