ST. PETERSBURG -- After a week of practice under duress from the hospitalization of starting center and captain Dan Dicicco with a serious illness, Dixie Hollins began its season over visiting Pinellas Park seriously motivated. There were also deaths in two other players' families, adding a somber mood to the game.

PLAY OF THE GAME: With 2:29 left in the third quarter Dixie's Kevin Marion took the handoff outside of tackle only to cut back against the flow for a 43-yard scoring rumble.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Behind the running of sophomore Art Williams the Rebels' Anthony Kautz scored late in the first quarter on a 1-yard dive. The Patriots could do little defensively in the second quarter to stop Dixie's two drives, one capped by Vince Iacopelli's 37-yard field goal and the other, after a fumble recovery by Bronson Posoa, ending with a 25-yard touchdown run by George Lovett.

The Rebels scored twice in the second half ending with a long 34-yard sweep by senior Corey Austin. Patriot receiver Latriz Bradley caught a 44-yard pass from quarterback Gary Fiegel but then fumbled.

KEY STATISTICS: Dixie Hollins had 14 first downs to Pinellas Park's four. Williams led all rushers with 92 yards.

THEY SAID IT: "We were either going to come out and be emotionally flat or come out inspired; we came out inspired," -- Dixie Hollins coach Mike Morey.
