Highs

BUBBA DICKERSON: The 20-year-old Florida junior overcame a five-hole deficit to win the 101st U.S. Amateur Championship on the final hole. On the 230-yard 18th, he stuck a 4-iron 12 feet from the pin, then made the putt. Talk about clutch.

USF FOOTBALL: Although it lost its Division I-A debut, the Bulls showed they can be competitive at the top level.

TIGER WOODS AND JIM FURYK: They needed seven extra holes to settle the NEC Invitational. Those seven holes -- two hours of sudden-death golf complete with a holed bunker shot, long pressure putts and remarkable approach shots -- marked the end of Woods' summer slump.

Lows

LITTLE LEAGUE: Questions about Danny Almonte's age came up long ago, but the youth baseball organizers weren't too aggressive in investigating. Now, they end up with a black eye on their marquee event.

HASIM RAHMAN AND LENNOX LEWIS: Funny, with the XFL gone, we thought Vince McMahon had given up getting involved in legitimate sports. Oh, we forgot. Boxing isn't legitimate either.

DEWAYNE STAATS AND JOE MAGRANE: We watched Harry Caray in the stands. Harry Caray entertained us. Guys, you're no Harry Caray.
