Another concussion sidelines Aikman IRVING, Texas -- Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman was knocked out of Sunday's opener with a concussion, and whether he would return for this weekend's game was unclear.
Aikman was released from a hospital after tests revealed no serious problem.
Aikman was hurt when sacked for the fourth time, by Hugh Douglas and James Dowling, about three minutes into the second quarter. He was replaced by Randall Cunningham.
It's the ninth career concussion for Aikman, who is in his 12th season. He missed two games midway through last season after two concussions in eight days.
Cowboys coach Dave Campo said he wasn't sure when a decision would be made abou Aikman's future playing time. Dallas plays at Arizona on Sunday.
The injury woes mounted on the last Dallas possession when receiver Joey Galloway was carted off the field with a sprained left knee. He is scheduled for an MRI exam today.
The Cowboys acquired Galloway in an off-season trade with Seattle to be the big-play receiver and basically serve as the replacement for Michael Irvin, who was forced to retire because of a neck injury. He also was listed as the emergency third-string quarterback.
BILLS: Doug Flutie was activated as the third quarterback, returning earlier than expected from a torn groin muscle.
BROWNS: Receiver Darrin Chiaverini received a mild concussion in the first quarter on a hit by Jaguars linebacker Hardy Nickerson and sat out the rest of the game.
CARDINALS: Left tackle L.J. Shelton sprained his right knee on the first play from scrimmage and did not return.
CHIEFS: Nine-time Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Thomas was honored in a pregame tribute that included career highlights on the video board and a military flyover. The players, who saw the video tribute Thursday, asked that they not be on the field for the public showing. Thomas died in February of injuries in an auto accident.
FALCONS: Offensive lineman Bob Whitfield set a team record by starting his 113th consecutive game.
49ERS: Safety Lance Schulters was knocked out on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. After Schulters missed a tackle on Falcons running back Jamal Anderson, a pile of players rolled into his left ankle. X-rays were negative, but he is scheduled for an MRI exam today.
GIANTS: Receivers Ike Hilliard and Ron Dixon overslept and missed Saturday's walkthrough. Coach Jim Fassel said they would be fined the maximum allowed. ... Safety Sam Garnes, who left in the third quarter with cramps, received a concussion with 2:57 left.
LIONS: Coach Bobby Ross said he wants to know by Wednesday whether injured quarterback Charlie Batch can play Sunday against Washington at the Silverdome. Last week, Batch and Stoney Case shared practice reps until Friday, when Batch told Ross he didn't feel he was sufficiently recovered from the broken bone in his right leg to play.
PACKERS: They couldn't manage a drive longer than 4:22 or 39 yards in the first three quarters against the Jets.
REDSKINS: Larry Centers had seven catches for a career total of 611, passing Keith Byars (610) as the all-time leading running back in receptions.
STEELERS: Linebacker Levon Kirkland sprained an ankle and sat out the second half.
