Man accused of fleeing police, home invasion

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 37-year-old man led sheriff's deputies on a chase into Pinellas County on Sunday after he stole a car in New Port Richey, according to Pasco County sheriff's reports.

Deputies said Ricky Moore, of 5406 Van Duren Drive forced his way into the house of Diana Lynn Cravender. She told deputies that Moore pulled a knife, cut her on the hand and elbow and demanded money. He later took her car keys, stole her 1996 Chevrolet car and fled, reports stated.

Deputies chased Moore south on U.S. 19 into Pinellas County and finally apprehended him near Tarpon Springs. But along the way he hit two other cars and reached speeds of 90 mph, deputies said.

They said he gave a false name, John Brown, to deputies when he was caught.

Moore faces charges of armed home invasion, grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, giving a false name to an officer and refusing to sign a citation. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $123,500.

Officials seek five suspects in robbery

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies were searching for five people who robbed a man Sunday outside the Bottle Club, 4527 U.S. 19.

Robert Brian Roach, 45, of Tarpon Springs told deputies he showed up at the club about 2:30 a.m. in his 1967 Chevrolet Nova. Roach told deputies the four men and one woman asked him about his car, and he showed them his engine.

He said the group then challenged him to a race, which he declined. Roach went into the bar but came out to get cigarettes from his car. He then was hit on the head by one of the men, and someone took a wad of $600 to $700 in cash out of his pocket, Roach told deputies.

He said the robbers fled in a black Ford Mustang. They all were about 20 years old, he said. The woman was a thin blond about 5 feet 9 inches tall. The four men also were about 5 feet 9 inches tall, each with a stocky build, wearing jeans and T-shirts.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Abandoned house racks up $650 phone bill

ODESSA -- Jeffery Dale Burris got a shock when he received his latest phone bill.

On it he found almost $650 worth of calls to two separate 900 numbers. Burris, 30, told deputies his 13527 Interlaken Road home has been abandoned for two years, but that he keeps his phone activated there because he comes every few days to check the house and feed the dogs he keeps there.

Burris said he had no idea who would have made the calls. Deputies noted in their report that the house has no door, all the windows are broken out and the floors are rotten. They said it appeared to be a gathering place for young juveniles.

No arrests have been made in the case.
