Court shows dominate syndication

It's official.

When it comes to syndicated TV shows, personalities are out and courts are in.

For proof, look no further than the new crop of syndicated TV programs. Instead of airing on a network that generally broadcasts shows at the same time nationwide, syndicated series are purchased by a different station in every TV market across the country. Syndicated series include shows such as Jeopardy and Xena: Warrior Princess.

Stung by high-profile flops such as The Magic Show, The Martin Short Show and The Roseanne Show, syndicators have backed away from high-profile, star-driven projects.

These days, the continuing success of Judge Judy proves the bench is place to be -- with no fewer than five new crime- and justice-oriented programs coming to the Tampa Bay area market.

For example, Fox affiliate WTVT-Ch. 13 on Monday will kick The Rosie O'Donnell Show out of its afternoon time slot to 10 a.m. weekdays, just after Live With Regis. The adjustments make room for two new court-themed shows, moving Judge Joe Brown and Divorce Court to 3 p.m. weekdays. They'll lead into heavyweight Judge Judy at 4.

The switch makes sense for WTVT. It moves the ever-sinking O'Donnell closer to viewer magnet Regis Philbin while creating a two-hour block of court-themed shows from 3 to 5 p.m.

Here's a quick list of some other hot syndicated TV shows:
