Tip leads to arrest in bank robberyBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published September 7, 2000 TAMPA -- An informer led police to the man they say robbed the Southern Exchange Bank at 405 N West Shore Blvd. on Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after the 3 p.m. robbery, Tampa police Officer Gary Yost heard that the suspect was staying at the Jayhawk Motel on Nebraska Avenue. Police watched the motel and located the suspect in a room, where he was arrested. Based on evidence collected in the motel room, police charged 36-year-old Tony Leonard Kelly with armed robbery Tuesday night. Kelly, with a last known address of 9802 Lewis Road in Thonotosassa, has been arrested 15 times in the past 10 years.
