Breathe in, breathe out

Labor Day is behind us. Vacations? Bygones. There's too much to do at work and home. And as long as we're whining, why does it have to be so dadgum hot? Draw the drapes, doll. It's time to chill.

Fountain

Fountain

The calming burble of water from this indoor fountain adds an air of tranquility to any room. Litetyme Zen Rock Garden Water Fountain. $24.99. Lechters stores.

Eye Pillow

Eye Pillow

Lay this little silk cushion atop your tired peepers and settle in for a nap. Flaxseed fill helps block out light; lavender blossoms aid relaxation. Rest Your Eyes Eye Pillow, $20. Natural Wonders, in many shopping malls.

The Art of Doing Nothing and The Art of Relaxation

Books

Put down that day planner, and pick up these two books to help you join the ranks of the formerly frazzled: The Art of Doing Nothing and The Art of Relaxation, by Veronique Vienne. Clarkson Potter/Publishers, $15 each. Order through bookstores, or on the Web at http://www.amazon.com.

Conair Sound Therapy Radio

Gadget of the week:

Clear tomorrow's to-do list from your weary head with a sound therapy radio. This clock radio offers 10 soft, soothing choices to dream (and wake) to. One sleep-deprived user swears by the calming effect of ocean waves. Conair Sound Therapy Radio. $39.99. Eckerd drugs.

Wind Chime

An electric fan will stir up a breeze and generate cool melodies from this wind chime. You can almost feel the temperature drop. Wind chime, $9.99. Target.

Peppermint Soap

Stretch. Warm up. Work out. Cool down. Minty soap in your shower or bath gives more relief from the heat. Dr. Bronner's peppermint castile soap, about $2.50, health food stores and some drugstores.

Coming attractions

Ann Taylor Clothiers will open a St. Petersburg store in the BayWalk retail/entertainment complex. It's expected to open in early November.

The Fresh Market Inc., a chain of gourmet grocers based in North Carolina, plans a new shop in Tampa in January 2001, in the old Upton's space at Palms of Carrollwood shopping center, N Dale Mabry Highway and Fletcher Avenue.

In the market

Cool click

Instead of frying eggs on the asphalt, consider a cooler alternative: staying inside to create your own snow creature. Frost-o-Matic: http://www.dreamingamerica.com/snow/need.html
