Pinellas top 10

(Last week's ranking in parentheses)

By Times staff writer

© St. Petersburg Times, published September 8, 2000

1. (3) CCC (1-0) -- Obliterated a decent Lemon Bay team; will be tested by the Barons.

2. (2) Lakewood (1-0) -- Lackluster win over St. Petersburg costs Spartans the No. 1 ranking.

3. (6) Tarpon Springs (1-0) -- Changed spots with East Lake; could change with Lakewood next.

4. (5) Seminole (1-0) -- Warhawks catch Northeast off a loss for the first time in a long time.

5. (7) Gibbs (1-0) -- Scored 32 points against Largo. More important, surrendered just 3.

6. (4) East Lake (0-1) -- Once again, the Eagles succumb to rival Tarpon Springs on home ground.

7. (NR) Countryside (1-0) -- Is Countryside much better or Northeast much worse than projected?

8. (10) SP Catholic (1-0) -- Barons came through vs. Bishop Moore despite losing Larry Woods.

9. (1) Northeast (0-1) -- The Streak is dead. The once-mighty Vikings collapsed at Countryside.

10. (NR) Dixie Hollins (1-0) -- The Rebels blanked Clearwater 20-0 for third consecutive shutout.

Dropped out: No. 8 Pinellas Park, No. 9 Clearwater.
