Trying to keep them clean?
FSU's Marching Chiefs got new uniforms (garnet pants and white jackets) for the first time since 1989. The band members wore them during pregame, but in keeping with a Beach Boys-themed halftime show, they wore Hawaiian shirts and shorts and not their snazzy new duds.
Despite rumors that Alabama-Birmingham might be without 12 players, including quarterback Jeff Aaron and receiver Willie Quinnie, the school didn't take disciplinary action as a result of a $40-million civil lawsuit. The suit alleges that the players had sex with a 15-year-old female student over several months. It also alleges that school officials and coach Watson Brown failed to take steps to investigate the situation or stop it. No criminal charges have been filed.
Many Seminoles and Blazers were heading to the locker room believing the first half had ended. Not so fast: UAB called timeout with 2.2 seconds left. Aided by a pass interference on cornerback Stanford Samuels on the next play, UAB tried a 58-yard field goal with no time left. It was short.
