Five students who attend Gibbs High School sustained minor injuries Monday afternoon when their car collided with a semitrailer truck in St. Petersburg.

The driver of the truck failed to yield at a stop sign at Interstate 275 and 31st Street S, according to Petersburg police Officer Mike Robertson. The driver, Wade T. Drake, 34, pulled into the path of a 1982 Chevy Caprice driven by Clayton Gettig, 17, and carrying five passengers. Gettig's car hit the left rear of the truck.

Drake, a driver for Carolina Mountain, was hauling seafood and was cited by St. Petersburg police for failing to yield. The students were treated at Bayfront Medical Center.
