AUTOS: NASCAR canceled Friday's qualifying for the Winston Cup New England 300 in Loudon and the Trucks series event at Fort Worth, Texas. NASCAR made no decision concerning Sunday's Winston Cup race, but the Trucks race will be held Saturday. IRL canceled Friday's qualifying for the Chevy 500 in Fort Worth but plans to hold the race as scheduled on Sunday. CART tentatively plans to hold the German 500 Saturday but will make a final decision today. Formula One will hold the Italian Grand Prix but canceled some surrounding festivities. The NHRA Keystone Nationals has been rescheduled for Oct. 4-7. The Grand-Am Finale scheduled at Daytona is postponed.
BASEBALL: Major league games were postponed Wednesday and Thursday. Minor-league games, including the FSL championship series, were postponed Wednesday. Four leagues canceled playoffs: The New York-Penn League declared Brooklyn and Williamsport co-champions; Louisville is the International League champion; Tacoma and New Orleans are co-champions of the Pacific Coast League and Lake Elsinore and San Jose are co-champions of the California League.
BOXING: Saturday's Bernard Hopkins-Felix Trinidad middleweight championship fight at Madison Square Garden was postponed.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: The Southeastern Conference decided its games, including No. 8 Tennessee at No. 2 Florida, will be played Saturday. South Florida plans to play its game Saturday if Southern Utah can arrange travel. Three games set for tonight were postponed. The game Saturday between No. 10 Georgia Tech and No. 6 Florida State was postponed with no makeup date announced. The Big East has postponed its games this weekend, including No. 13 Washington at No. 1 Miami. Washington and Miami officials hope to play Nov. 24 when both teams were scheduled to be idle. Among other games postponed were Saturday matchups of Arizona State at No. 14 UCLA and San Diego State at No. 21 Ohio State.
COLLEGES: South Florida rescheduled this weekend's USF Fall Classic men's tennis event for Oct. 12-14.
GOLF: PGA Tour events, including the Tampa Bay Classic and the American Express Classic, were canceled.
NFL: The league has yet to decide whether to play Sunday.
NHL: The Lightning expects to play its preseason games Saturday in Fort Myers and Sunday at the Ice Palace.
PARIMUTUELS: Tampa Greyhound resumed Wednesday, and Derby Lane resumed simulcast wagering.
SOCCER: All four MLS games were postponed. In Columbus, Ohio, the U.S. Women's Cup doubleheader was canceled.
