Pets die in house fire
LARGO -- Three pets were killed in a house fire Thursday morning that caused about $25,000 damage to a home, 805 Old Charleston Way. The fire started in the kitchen area, then spread into a laundry room. Flames crawled into a pipe chase and sped toward the attic. Firefighters were called to the wood-frame colonial house at 10:07 a.m. and arrived four minutes later, fire officials said. Two cats and a dog perished in the fire, but no one was at home when flames broke out. Fire officials said Mike Hessler and his two teenage sons live there. The home suffered heavy smoke damage. The cause of the fire had not been determined by Thursday evening but was not thought to be suspicious.
