USF to give peace a chance next weekBy MICHAEL PATRICK WELCH © St. Petersburg Times, published September 15, 2000 As part of a series of activities on campus to promote world peace, a two-hour program Tuesday will feature speakers, entertainers and a moment of silence at noon introduced by USF President Judy Genshaft. Participants will join others across the world in recognizing the International Day of Peace. The program begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. On Wednesday, there will be a free dialogue about peace at the Marshall Center, Room 270, from 4 to 7 p.m. Dr. Denys Blell, vice president for the Office of Diversity, will give a speech "Building an Interconnected Community in a Fragmented Society." A panel of USF faculty will discuss peace after the talk. On Thursday, the Special Events Center on campus will host a lecture from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Admission is free for students, with suggested donations of $5 to $15 for others. Shariff Abdullah will speak about "Creating a World That Works for All." The events are part of Peace Week 2000 and are designed to get students to think about issues related to peace and those less fortunate.
