    Trio of shows opens

The Dunedin Fine Art Center is presenting three new shows: Synecdoche: Multiple Image Artworks, an exhibition of the works of seven artists who install many small works together to make one statement; Ed Ross: Finding Our Voices for..., featuring works by Tampa sculptor and University of South Florida professor Ed Ross; and Clay of the Earth, works by six Dunedin Fine Art Center instructors who work in clay. Tonight, there will be a choreographed dance performance and a talk with the artists from 6 to 7 p.m. An opening reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. On Saturday, Ross will conduct a workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $10. All three shows will close Oct. 11. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The center is at 1143 Michigan Blvd. Call (727) 298-3322.

    Orchids for auction

Have a liking for orchids? Then you may want to stop by Central Christian Church, 1200 Keene Road, Clearwater, on Saturday. That's when the Florida West Coast Orchid Society will host its annual fund-raiser: an auction featuring an array of 400 orchids. Doors will open at 9 a.m. The auction will begin at 10 a.m. and last until all of the plants are sold, which organizers think will be about midafternoon. Admission is free. Call (727) 446-0504.

    Jazz concert in Largo

Jazz vocalist Loston Harris will stop in Largo tonight. He'll perform at 8 p.m. at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive. "He's a strong singer, an imaginative pianist and an engaging personality who is bringing a resurgence in romance to jazz," concert organizers say. The Reston, Va., native's touring credits include a national tour with the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, which drew attention to his smoky voice and comparisons to Nat King Cole's style. He studied percussion at Virginia Commonwealth University before reviving his early interest in the piano. Harris received standing ovations at his concert in February at the Hyatt Regency ballroom in Tampa. Seating for the show will be cabaret-style, and there will be a cash bar. Tickets are $10.50. Call (727) 587-6793.
