Ministry, thrift store host sale, blood pressure checks

Bethesda Seventh-day Adventists Ministries and BF&S Quality Thrift Store Inc., 3981 68th Ave. N, Pinellas Park, will hold a sale and offer blood pressure tests and samples of vegetarian food, 8 a.m. through 2 p.m. Sept. 24. Proceeds will benefit the underprivileged.

St. Petersburg church hosts theatrical performance

Television and movie actor Frank Runyeon will perform Afraid! The Gospel of Mark at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, 140 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg.

Runyeon, who starred opposite Meg Ryan on As the World Turns in the 1980s as well as Santa Barbara, Falcon Crest, General Hospital, L.A. Law and most recently on Melrose Place, has a master's degree from General Theological Seminary in New York City.

The program is set in the catacombs of Rome by candlelight, but the performance is in contemporary English. Runyeon tells the story in the present tense and incorporates audience interaction. The performance, which lasts 70 minutes, is suitable for all ages. The cost is $5.

Parents can preview program on sexual abstinence

Lutheran Church of the Cross, 4545 Chancellor St. NE, St. Petersburg, invites parents to attend an overview of "No Apologies," a program about sexual abstinence for junior and high school students, 12:15 p.m. Sunday. Based on James Dobson's Focus on the Family program, the sessions for teenagers will be from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m., beginning Sept. 24, in the day school's multipurpose room, 4400 Chancellor St. The six-week series will discuss waiting until marriage for sex. Registered nurses Carol Bohne and Jeanne Randall will facilitate the video presentation. Registration is not required. Free.

Grief support group holding weekly meetings

Cornerstone Community Church, 6745 38th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, is offering a grief seminar and support group from 10 a.m. to noon each Friday for 13 weeks. The series, GriefShare, will end Dec. 8. No meeting will be held the week of Thanksgiving. The series began on Sept. 8, but each session is self-contained.

GriefShare features experts on grief and recovery topics speaking on videotape. Small group discussions will follow. Registration of $15 will include a companion book. Coffee and doughnuts will be available by 9:45 a.m. Call 343-7747 or 393-5300.
