INTERNATIONAL FILM SERIES: The Gulf Coast Museum of Art, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo, shows the The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca at 1 p.m. Film complements the current exhibit Maria Emilia Castagliola: In Praise of Federico Garcia Lorca running through Nov. 11. MUSIC AND MARKETING: A songwriting workshop with Vancouver singer/songwriter Lowry Olafson, 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Woodlawn Church, 2612 12th St. N, St. Petersburg. A brown bag dinner workshop titled "The Demo Process, Recording to Market Your Song," will be presented by Bonnie Whitehurst at 5 p.m. A concert follows with Debby and the Truth and Cliff Patterson at 6:30 p.m. $10 for songwriting workshop, $5 (bring your own dinner) for demo workshop and $5-$8 donation for concert. DALI MOVIE MADNESS: A cinematic jamboree at 6 p.m. in the Salvador Dali Museum, 1000 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. The show kicks off with four Dali commercials and continues with Hello Dali, a dayglow BBC documentary made during the height of psychedelia. Other films: Dali and Luis Bunuel's 1929Un Chien Andalou; and Le Pink Grapefruit, a 1976 film on Dali Museum founders A. Reynolds and Eleanor Morse as they visited with Dali. MAINSTAGE SEASON: American Stage, 211 Third St. S, St. Petersburg, raises the curtain on the first of five plays in a series titled "Acts of Courage and Uncommon Heroes." Spunk, written by Zora Neale Hurston and adapted for the stage by George C. Wolfe, opens Friday and runs through Oct. 14. 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 3 p.m. Saturdays (excluding Sept. 22) and Sundays. $20-$30. Call 823-7529.

MARINE HABITAT GAME: Find out which marine animals live where and why in the fun hands-on game, 10 a.m. in The Pier Aquarium, 800 Second Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. Donations appreciated. Call 895-7437.

NIGHT OF WONDERS: The Science Center, 7701 22nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg, holds a family night featuring two interactive shows that are part of the "City of Wonder" traveling exhibit that remains at the center until Jan. 6. "Smoke Tornado" gives visitors the ability to create a tornado with their hands inside a glass column and "Safe House" takes visitors through a few minutes of real-life drama and includes information about building code safety, design and disaster preparedness. Also: planetarium presentations at 7, 7:45, 8:30 and 9:15 p.m. ($1), laser show at 7 p.m. ($2) and "Pop 2001" laser show at 8:30 p.m. ($2). The observatory's 16-inch Meade telescope is open for viewing the heavens and the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club sets up its telescopes and answers questions. Free, except where noted. Call 384-0027.

MORE THAN MUSIC: A songwriters' round-robin featuring Joy Katzen-Guthrie, Donna Klein, Tonya Quillen, Mindy Simmons, Shana and Bonnie Whitehurst is held at 8 p.m. in the Catherine A. Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S, Gulfport. Hear the stories behind the songs and ask questions of the artists. $10. Call 893-1070.

WEAPONS SHOW: A gun and knife show and sale, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N, St. Petersburg.
