NFL should have played its games

© St. Petersburg Times,
published September 16, 2001

So the NFL has canceled this weekend's games. I guess that means the only winners are the vile, spineless, godless vermin who perpetrated this act on America. After all, isn't this exactly what they wanted to accomplish? Disrupt the American way of life? Terrorize the American people? I thought the president put it best when he said we should show them they cannot break our resolve. No disrespect intended, but I was looking forward to watching something besides CNN this weekend. When will we be allowed to start the healing?
-- Geoff Moore, via e-mail

Punish the parents

Danny Almonte's mother admits she committed "this little fraud" because Latinos don't get the opportunities? What about the children who worked so hard to get to the semifinals only to lose to the "Bronx Burglars"? What type of opportunities do they now have? Inoa Sanchez and her husband should be punished to the fullest extent of the law for what they have done to hundreds of children in Little League.
-- Kevin Cregan, Palm Harbor

Sampras deserves better

Pete Sampras, one of the best tennis players ever, didn't deserve the headline over the picture of the recent winner of the U.S. Open. Why "It's out with the old" when a more fitting headline would have been "A new champion"?
