TAMPA -- After 35 years of public school service, Jim Pullin has resigned as athletic director at Gaither and is moving to a job in the Human Resources Department of the Hillsborough County Public School System.
Pullin, 57, has been athletic director at Gaither for eight years.
"It's time to move on and begin thinking about retirement and other things," Pullin said. "I've been doing this for 35 years. Maybe I'll (retire) next June and find something else to do for a little while."
Pullin began his career as a science teacher at Hillsborough High. He later moved to Pierce Middle School, back to Hillsborough and then to Jefferson, where he spent 13 years teaching everything from physics to chemistry. He spent four years as a night school principal and another two as an assistant principal before taking over the Cowboys' athletic department.
"It's really been a frustrating start of the year," Pullin said. "Very stressful. I'll trade this in for a new set of problems and opportunities and see how that goes."
