Dixie Hollins (1-1) at Tarpon Springs (2-0)

LAST MEETING: Tarpon Springs 27, Dixie Hollins 20 (2000)

THE SKINNY: A Class 4A, District 9 game. Tarpon is crippled with injuries as two linemen and star wide receiver/defensive back Roshawn Marshall are out. Dixie will need big plays from receiver/kick returner Kevin Marion.

Lakewood (1-1) at Largo (2-0)

LAST MEETING: Largo 6, Lakewood 0 (2000)

THE SKINNY: A 4A-9 game. Like a certain pewter-clad team from across the bay, Largo lives on defense and its offense puts up just enough points to get by. Lakewood exploded for 41 points last week, but this is not Boca Ciega.

Gibbs (0-2) at East Lake (1-1)

LAST MEETING: Gibbs 56, East Lake 36 (2000)

THE SKINNY: Gibbs is aching for momentum after a slow start. Quarterback Ron Mathis is carrying his weight, but the rushing attack (two games, six yards) is not. East Lake's runners pounded away for 389 yards Sept. 7 in a rout of Countryside.

Boca Ciega (0-2) at Seminole (2-0)

LAST MEETING: Seminole 27, Boca Ciega 0 (2000)

THE SKINNY: A 5A-8 game. Tonight, Seminole will take the first step toward a second consecutive district title while Boca Ciega ... er ... uh ... will try to score. Seminole has allowed seven points each week, so it's possible.

Dunedin (1-1) at Countryside (1-1)

LAST MEETING: Countryside 35, Dunedin 21 (2000)

THE SKINNY: A 4A-9 game. In three years at Dunedin, coach Mark Everett said he has never seen morale so high as this week after the Falcons' overtime win at Clearwater. The same could not be said at Countryside after its 69-20 loss to East Lake. But the Cougars have more offensive weapons.

CCC (2-0) at Palm Harbor U. (0-2), 6:30 p.m.

LAST MEETING: CCC 18, Palm Harbor U. 14 (1998)

THE SKINNY: After a thrilling 14-6 win against three-time defending Class A champion North Florida Christian, it would be understandable if the Marauders didn't play with as much emotion. That still might not be enough for PHU, however, which has yet to play a close game.

St. Petersburg (1-1) at Northeast (2-0)

LAST MEETING: Northeast 35, St. Petersburg 15 (2000)

THE SKINNY: A 5A-8 game. The Vikings and Green Devils are the leading candidates for district runner-up, and a win here would go a long way. St. Petersburg coach Todd St. Louis is showing off another fine renovation project, but Northeast appears to be catching its old Jerry Austin mystique.
