HALIFAX, Nova Scotia -- Jassen Cullimore, the Lightning's best defenseman last season, will miss at least two weeks and possibly four with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
An MRI Monday in Tampa confirmed the injury, sustained during Sunday's scrimmage when Cullimore missed a check and his knee buckled.
Head medical trainer Dave Boyer said Cullimore does not need surgery, and expects him to be ready for the Oct. 5 season-opener against the Islanders. A four-week recovery would bring Cullimore back Oct. 16 against the Avalanche.
