Candlelight vigils tonight

Three candlelight vigils are planned for tonight.

6:30 p.m.: Fero Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5891 Lecanto Highway (County Road 491) in Beverly Hills. A tree also will be dedicated in honor of all those lost or injured.

7 p.m.: Rock Crusher Canyon (275 S Rock Crusher Road, Crystal River). Call 795-1313.

The event will feature music, speeches of healing and comfort from local clergy. There will be chairs and about 1,000 candles, but people can bring their own seats, blankets and candles for the event.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army will accept disaster relief donations during the event. The Citrus County veterans services office will gather donations specifically for New York City rescue workers. They will accept kneepads, white socks and underwear, and toiletry items such tootbhrushes and toothpaste.

An honor guard from the Citrus County Sheriff's Office will present the colors. Speakers will include the Rev. Ray Cortese, Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church; Pastor Lloyd Bertine, Gulf to Lake Church; Father Jim Hogue, St. Scholastica Catholic Church; the Rev. Frank Tough, Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church; the Rev. Alan Jefferson of the Crystal River United Methodist, and Megan Vanderhaar with Club Christ.

7:30 p.m.: Citrus High School football field (600 W Highland Blvd., Inverness). The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 120 Citrus County invites all residents, law enforcement officers and firefighters.
