Dead blue jay in Lecanto had West Nile virus
LECANTO -- Citrus County's first confirmed case of West Nile virus was announced Wednesday. The virus appeared in a dead blue jay that was found off Redwood Terrace in Lecanto and submitted for testing Aug. 22, the Citrus County Health Department reported. In Florida, authorities have reported five cases of humans contracting West Nile encephalitis and three cases of humans contracting Eastern Equine encephalitis.
