© St. Petersburg Times, VETERANS NEEDED: The Veterans Appreciation Week Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee will conduct its annual Veterans-in-the-Classroom program, November 1-12, as part of its Ninth Annual Veterans Appreciation Week activities. The program brings living history to the classrooms of the county's public and private schools and homeschool groups. Veterans share with students their firsthand military experiences while serving our country in peace and war. Veterans interested in sharing their stories with students are encouraged to contact Neville Anderson at 344-2529. PJP II FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH POLICY: Pope John Paul II Catholic School announces its policy to free and reduced-price meals served under the National School Lunch Program. A copy of the policy is available for review in the school office, and applications have been sent to parents and guardians. Household size and income criteria will determine eligibility. START YOUR OWN BUSINESS: The Central Florida Community College-Lecanto campus in conjunction with Service Corps Of Retired Executives is offering a two-day seminar on how to start a business. Part I will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The cost for Part I is $50. Part II will be offered Sept. 29 at the same time. The cost is $20 and requires the completion of Part I. LITTLE RED SCHOOLHOUSE ACADEMY: The next Little Red Schoolhouse Academy, a Citrus School District four-session opportunity to learn about the school system, begins October 1. SWAT KICK-ASH-BASH: Students Working Against Tobacco will hold a free Kick Ash Bash from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the Riggs Building at the Citrus County Fair Grounds. Citrus County high- and middle-school students are invited to party with a video DJ and 17-foot video screen. There will be human foosball, air brush tattoos, a hot sound system and bungee running games. Drinks and snacks will be available at a nominal charge. Sheriff officers will provide security and parents are welcome. For information, call 726-0509. NORTH OAK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL: North Oak Christian School is accepting applications for the prek-3 and k-4 kindergarten classes. The school uses ABEKA as part of the curriculum and other materials to meet the academic and social needs of the children. Registration is $55 and monthly tuition is $146. IAPA SCHOLARSHIP: The Inter American Press Association Scholarship Fund's application period for the $13,000 U.S. scholarships is open. Deadline is Dec. 31. Senior journalism students and U.S. or Canadian journalists interested in studying in or reporting from Latin America may apply. Recipients will be selected at the IAPA Midyear Meeting in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in March. TIMES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM -- 2002: The St. Petersburg Times is offering four scholarships of up to $15,000 annually to public or private high school seniors in Citrus, Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States, and preference will be given to students whose parents did not graduate from a four-year accredited college or university. Applications are available at all St. Petersburg Times offices during regular business hours, from high school guidance counselors, at some community centers and online at www.sptimes.com/scholarships.
