Russia's Alexei Nemov was the star of the show, winning the all-around gold medal. The highlights:
ALEXEI NEMOV: The new father won the title that eluded him at the 1996 Games. He took the gold with 58.474 points. China's Yang Wei won the silver, finishing 0.113 behind Nemov. Oleksandr Beresh of Ukraine took the bronze. With his silver from the team competition Monday, "Sexy Alexei" has eight Olympic medals.
BLAINE WILSON: The five-time U.S. national champion finished sixth, continuing America's all-around drought. The United States hasn't won an all-around medal since Peter Vidmar's silver 16 years ago. Needing about a 9.8 on his last routine for a medal, Wilson had already checked out for the night. "I've never scored a 9.8 on pommel horse in my life," he said. "So, whatever. . ."
UP NEXT: Wilson has one more chance to salvage a difficult Olympics for the U.S. team, Monday in the apparatus finals during a 5-second vault. "Five seconds?" Wilson said. "That's five more seconds I could be on the golf course." Indeed, Wilson seems indifferent to his opportunity. "I don't have to medal to be a man," he said. "All these medals are going to do is make them more money. Money's not going to buy happiness. I'm happy. I really don't care."
