Letters to the EditorsBus route change would restore, improve service
© St. Petersburg Times, published September 22, 2000 Editor: Attention residents of Holiday Hills, Shalimar Village and Windtree Apartments. I have suggested a slight change in routing for bus 23, which could restore bus service to this area. Instead of reaching Ridge Road by going down U.S. 19 from Gulf View Mall, if the bus would go through Holiday Hills to Roble Way and Stone Road and then to Congress Street and Ridge Road and continue its regular routing, it would give quick service to and from the mall to this area, and no one would have to walk across Ridge Road or 19. If the return trip entered the mall from Target, it would restore service to Target also. There would be no extra time added to the route, and it could still run every hour. With a few ads, the service should be able to change immediately and benefit this whole area. You would have access to the three other buses that travel U.S. 19, State Road 52, Embassy Boulevard to Little Road and Fox Hollow to State Road 54. Daily and monthly passes are reasonably priced. You wouldn't be stuck for four hours at one store anymore and could ride five days instead of just Saturday. If you think this would be great, please call Mr. Carroll at (727) 834-3200. The holidays are coming!Dorothy Fredericks, Port Richey Enforce community rules before we're buried in garbageRe: Deed restrictions being ignored in Driftwood Village, Sept. 14 letter Editor: Timber Oaks won't enforce the deed restrictions according to its own covenants. Code compliance officials seem unable to control the habitual violators with $500 fines and jail time. We tried getting our neighbors involved and received one favorable response out of 26. When you fail to get involved in your community, you are part of the problem, not the solution. It appears our neighbors have no trash service or gainful employment, nor do they seem to want to seek any. I am living with the stench and unsightly mess of numerous bags of rotting garbage. Code compliance officials have been notified twice with no results. Not only do we have to live next door to these offensive violators and have them devalue our property, we may be supporting them as well with our taxes in the form of welfare (talk about a Catch-22). These violators are young, strong, healthy individuals who continue to throw their trash out the back door. This slovenly and unhealthy practice has brought in mice, rats, snakes and feral cats. They have devalued our property and any property that abuts theirs. Yet, not one of these neighbors seems to want to get involved. The death of common sense in America is thriving here in Driftwood Village and Timber Oaks. Perhaps I should write a book titled, The Death of Common Courtesy and Decency. A gentleman from Hudson wrote a few weeks ago that a "subdivision with an inactive homeowners association can see property values decrease by as much as 40 percent due to the failure to enforce restrictions. Failure to enforce community rules may appear to be a small problem, but soon spreads and becomes chronic." This has happened in Driftwood Village due to the lack of enforcement of these restrictions by the Timber Oaks Committee. I do not want to wait another three years before this lawsuit is settled, nor do I want my property value to decrease more over time. It's time to stop being petty and vindictive and work toward the common good of this community. Wake up Timber Oaks. Do you think with all this notoriety you will attract good neighbors or more violators? Share your viewsThe Pasco Times welcomes letters from readers for publication.
