WESLEY CHAPEL -- A 13-year-old Thomas E. Weightman Middle School student accused of scrawling a bomb threat on a paper towel Tuesday afternoon in the boys' bathroom has been suspended and will be recommended for expulsion, school officials said. The eighth-grader gave his teacher a note reading "There's a bomb in the school," just minutes before school was scheduled to be let out Tuesday, Pasco County sheriff's deputies reported. He told the teacher that he had found the note. Administrators evacuated the school, 30649 Wells Road, and deputies said they searched for a bomb, but found none. The boy was arrested Wednesday and charged with making false bomb threats on a school. He is not being named by the Times because of his age. The threat came a week after administrators held assemblies with each grade discussing the increased attention on bomb threats and weapons in school, assistant principal Jim Lane said. "Most of the kids get the message," Lane said.

Two meetings planned to discuss progress of theater renovation

DADE CITY -- Organizers of Pasco County's Community Aging & Retirement Services agency have scheduled two public forums for Sept. 29 to update residents on progress of the Crescent Theater renovation program. The effort to restore the building has generated $400,000 in state money and attracted volunteers since the restoration was suggested two years ago. CARES President Bill Aycrigg said Thursday an architect is expected to attend the forum to discuss building plans and others will update supporters on fundraising, costs and other details. The forums are set for noon to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at City Hall, 38020 Meridian Ave.
