NEW PORT RICHEY -- Newcomers Chasco and Centennial didn't take long to break into the win column.

Two games into their inaugural seasons, to be exact.

As the county's 10th and 11th teams, the Chasco Chargers and Centennial Cyclones are 1-1. Chasco defeated Bayonet Point 14-0 Tuesday and Centennial romped to a 44-22 win Wednesday over Gulf.

Doused by a cooler of ice water following Chasco's win, coach Nick Zizo said, "I'll take four more of those and go 5-1."

Chasco tailback Ron Shiner, who totaled 122 all-purpose yards, scored on a 14-yard run and quarterback Jeff Roxby hooked up with tight end Bobby Brunda on a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Inside linebacker Rick Hartwell sparked the Chargers defense with nine tackles and three sacks.

Centennial took a 44-6 halftime lead en route to its 22-point win and coach John McDougall emptied his bench in the second half. "It couldn't have worked out any better," he said. "Everybody got to play."

"I congratulate Centennial on their win," Gulf coach Keith Campbell said. "Their guys played good in the first half and we didn't."

The Cyclones, who gave up a touchdown on the first play of their first game in a 16-0 loss to Stewart, reversed roles against Gulf. On Centennial's first offensive play, running back John Daniel ran for the first of his two touchdowns, a 63-yard burst up the middle.

Centennial running back Cliff Floyd also ran for a touchdown and teammate Arsenio Roberts scored on an interception return and a punt return. Fullback Dustin Bensonhuber ran for two touchdowns and running back Nick Ferrero ran for another to lead the Buccaneers offense.

"They did a good job," Campbell said of his defense, which led by Timothy Longnecker, Jessie Welling and Bryan Baron held the Cyclones scoreless after halftime. "They stepped it up in the second half."

Hudson and Weightman are on top of the Pasco County Middle School Athletic Conference standings at 3-0 and Seven Springs (2-0), which had a bye last week, is right behind the leaders.

Hudson had the only other shutout last week, 14-0 over Pine View.

The Cougars scored on quarterback Kyle Hatcher's 20-yard bootleg and Vince Ferlita's 15-yard run.

Hudson's defense kept the Panthers at bay with three turnovers. Chris Connell had two interceptions and John Titsworth recovered a fumble.
