Highs and lows

Highs

ROGER CLEMENS: In an era when pitchers routinely get rocked, Clemens stands tall as the first to go 20-1.

PHILADELPHIA FANS: They might be the king of the lows over the years, but Thursday night they came through with flying colors (more like red, white and blue). During the second intermission of the Rangers-Flyers preseason game, President Bush started his speech to Congress. His address was shown on the arena's scoreboard, but when it was time to start the third period, the president was turned off. Fans booed and chanted "Leave it on!" Arena officials obliged and when Bush finished speaking 36 minutes later, the game was halted as the teams lined up at center ice to shake hands amid a standing ovation.

THE GOOD GUYS: From Keyshawn Johnson to Rusty Wallace, major league baseball to the U.S. Tennis Association, athletes, sports teams and leagues have donated money, blood and time to help in the wake of a national tragedy.

Lows

ALEX ZANARDI'S CRASH: The two-time CART driving champion had his legs amputated after his car was hit at 200 mph in the American Memorial race. The sad coincidence is that with virtually every American sport called off last weekend, CART was one of the few that took place. Meanwhile, thumbs up to the circuit's traveling medical team, which saved Zanardi's life.

AL GROH: The Virginia coach, who formerly led the New York Jets, responded to players' fears about flying by saying: "I'm not planning on having any Arabs in the traveling party." Lumping all Arabs in with the terrorists is not what America should represent.
