Double the pleasure

Florida fans got a double dose of happiness. While Florida was winning, Florida State was losing to North Carolina. When the public address announcer informed the crowd that FSU lost 41-9, UF fans went wild.

One nation, no league

Normally, 12 flags fly over the northwest side of Commonwealth Stadium representing the schools of the Southeastern Conference. Those flags were replaced with 12 American flags.

WWF, mascot style

There was a little altercation on the sidelines between Albert the Alligator and Wildcat, the Kentucky mascot, during the first half. Albert was wrestled to the ground and the "match" was declared over.

Let's hear it for the old band

One-hundred sixty former members of the Kentucky marching band returned for a reunion concert. The members represented 11 states, including a man from Lake Worth. The alumni majorettes led the "High Step Strut" onto the field.

Flying exception

For security reasons, a no-fly zone was in effect over the stadium -- with a slight exception. With a hospital nearby on campus, several medical transport helicopters flew just outside the stadium.
