© St. Petersburg Times, USF center gives Alzheimer's tipsThe USF Suncoast Gerontology Center will hold a free program on Alzheimer's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater, and Oct. 10 at the Holiday Inn Tampa, 2701 E Fowler Ave. "Alzheimer's Disease: What Caregivers Need to Know" provides individuals caring for a family member or friend with Alzheimer's disease with practical tips, resources and information to help caregivers understand the disease process and manage disease-related behaviors. Senior Games includes diverse eventsBay area residents 50 years and older are invited to compete in the Tampa Bay Senior Games Oct. 2-5 and Oct. 8-12. You don't have to be physically fit to compete. Events include games, hobbies, talents, dance and athletic competitions. Competition is divided by gender and age groups set up in five-year increments. Registration is $12 and includes participation in an unlimited number of events, T-shirt, program, opening ceremony luncheon and awards banquet. Call (813) 274-8615. 'Adopt' a grandchildTwo Gulf Coast Community Care programs are looking for volunteers to spend time with children. The Linking Lifetimes program needs adults ages 35 and older to spend two to four hours a week interacting with children 9-13 or serving as a mentor and role model. The Adopt-A-Grandchild program is looking for volunteers ages 50 and older to develop a friendship with a child.
