Varied resume a boon to seniorsBy FREDDIE HUDSON
© St. Petersburg Times, TAMPA -- When Barbara Lane contacted the Hillsborough County Working Seniors Program about employment opportunities, she brought with her a resume that made finding her a job an easy task. She had such a wide variety of experience and skills, including working as a professional driver, housekeeper-nanny, office support staff, retail saleswoman, cashier and traveling sales representative, that the Florida Division of Motor Vehicles was delighted when, in August, Working Seniors suggested her to fill their open position. Since then, Lane has added yet another occupation to her varied work history as receptionist-greeter for the DMV. Her life outside the workplace further reveals Lane's propensity toward variety. She moved from Philadelphia more than 30 years ago, reared five children and is the proud grandparent of three. Before coming to Tampa, she attended the Philadelphia College of the Arts, with a major in painting. She continues to paint as a hobby and is proud of her son, Torrey, who seems to have inherited his mother's artistic talent, having become a professional stained-glass artist. Not one to become fixated on any one endeavor, especially when it comes to recreation, Lane seizes every opportunity to enjoy her other loves, singing and dancing, and attends Bachelor & Belle dances and heads out on the open sea in a cruise ship whenever possible. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
