BEARS: Mike Wells blocked Detroit kicker Jason Hanson's 32-yard field-goal attempt in the third quarter. Chicago has blocked seven of its opponents' past 29 field-goal tries. ... They have not had a 100-yard rusher in 21 games.

CARDINALS: Quarterback Jake Plummer tied a career worst with four interceptions. He also threw four Dec. 7, 1997, against Washington and Sept. 19, 1999, against Miami. ... Receiver Frank Sanders had seven catches for 60 yards and has 5,006 career yards receiving, the franchise's seventh player to top 5,000. ... They had their 16th sellout in Tempe, Ariz., and the crowd of 71,801 was the fifth-largest in team history.

COWBOYS: Tight end Jackie Harris, a former Buc, caught two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and has four for the season, tying a career high. ... Rookie Tim Seder's 40-yard field goal was his sixth straight to start his career, three short of the team record.

EAGLES: Punt returner Brian Mitchell was a quarterback for Louisiana-Lafayette in college and led the Ragin' Cajuns to a victory over Tulane in the Superdome, where Philadelphia beat the Saints on Sunday. "I wish I could play every game in the Superdome," he said. ... Philadelphia faced a team with a first-year coach for the third time in four games.

FALCONS: Quarterback Chris Chandler threw his first interception of the season in the first quarter, ending a streak of 149 attempts.

49ERS: Quarterback Jeff Garcia put together another strong outing, rushing for 43 yards and throwing four touchdowns, both career highs. He threw for a career-high 290 yards in the Sept. 17 loss at St. Louis. All this after coach Steve Mariucci considered demoting him in favor of Rick Mirer after the Week 2 loss to Carolina. "Jeff is just playing spectacular football right now," receiver Jerry Rice said. "He's making good decisions, and he's basically the reason why we're winning football games right now."

GIANTS: It took four games, but wide receiver Joe Jurevicius caught a pass in the second quarter. ... Tight end Pete Mitchell, who missed a couple of days of practice with an ulcer, played and caught one pass for 18 yards. ... Kerry Collins had been sacked three times in three games. He was sacked four times by the Redskins. ... Running back Tiki Barber has 391 yards rushing this season. Joe Montgomery led the team with 348 yards last season.

LIONS: Coach Bobby Ross said strong safety Kurt Schulz, a free-agent signee, is "one of the best I've ever coached. If you ever want to watch a guy work, come and watch him in practice." Schulz intercepted the Bears' Cade McNown three times.

PACKERS: They snapped out of an offensive slump with a 29-3 win over the Cardinals. In last season's finale, they defeated the Cardinals 49-24. "We actually looked like an offensive unit," general manager Ron Wolf said. "We took advantage of the skill that our guys have."

PANTHERS: Running back Natrone Means might be ready to come off the inactive list for the game Sunday against the Cowboys. Coach George Seifert said Means has recovered enough from a knee injury to play, provided he has a full grasp of the playbook.

RAMS: Defensive end Kevin Carter had his streak of 83 starts broken. He was disciplined for missing practice Wednesday. Carter came off the bench and recorded his second sack of the season. ... Quarterback Kurt Warner has thrown for 1,557 yards in four games, which projects to 6,228 for 16, or 1,144 more than Dan Marino's single-season record.

REDSKINS: Wide receiver Albert Connell entered with six catches for 81 yards. He had four for 122 before leaving in the third quarter with a bruised hip.

SAINTS: They got their second straight sellout thanks to a 24-hour extension granted by the NFL. Even with the extra time, the team needed last-second ticket sales to its coaches, players and local businesses to fill the Superdome. It was the first time they had sold out back-to-back games since 1993. ... Joe Horn, who entered with a team-leading 242 yards receiving, managed 34 yards.

VIKINGS: Some coaches are worried about Sunday's game against the Lions. "We don't match up real well against them," offensive line coach Mike Tice said. "(Tackle) Luther Elliss has given us fits, and (end Robert) Porcher has given us fits because of his speed on the outside."
