Mitchell maintains form despite Young's 30

ZEPHYRHILLS -- One day, Mitchell coach Steve Knobl knows young Wesley Chapel will catch up to his not-as-young Mustangs, and catch up fast.

But probably not this season, and definitely not on Tuesday.

The Mitchell machine rolled to an 8-1 record, withstanding Wesley Chapel freshman phenom Hana Young's best day this season.

"They're going to be really good in a few years," Knobl said. "They're going to be tough to deal with, and we're going to have to watch out for them."

Young led all golfers in Tuesday's dual meet by shooting 4-under-par 30 at Southport Springs, but the Wildcats still lost by 15 strokes to Pasco County's best public school team.

Defending Sunshine Athletic Conference medal-winner Amanda Moore led the defending SAC champions with 36 -- her best this season, too -- followed by Christina Beach's 45, Laura Reaves' 48 and Katie Taylor's 44.

"We're really riding those four," Knobl said. "My top four are really saving us. Today we had Wesley Chapel, and their No. 1 is phenomenal. They're steadily improving, too."

Young was backed by teammates Chantel Husted (47), Erika Fox (50) and Sarah Smith (60).

"I was happy that the girls did as well as they did," Wildcats coach Gerald Savoy said.

The Wildcats (4-1) were without two of their top four, Amber Moore and Stephanie Alonso. But including a preseason meeting, the Mustangs have prevailed twice over Wesley Chapel.
