Former House Majority Leader Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, was appointed Wednesday as chairman of the House Healthy Communities Council and vice chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Council.
Fasano resigned as majority leader this month, saying he wanted to pursue his own legislative agenda.
The Healthy Communities Council was previously headed by Rep. Nancy Argenziano. House Speaker Tom Feeney forced Argenziano out of the job after she supported health care measures Feeney didn't like.
The council oversees legislation dealing with health care, children and family, elder and long-term care, corrections and crime prevention.
