Your line is "Yes, Sister'
If you've ever wanted to return to the good old days of parochial school, or just want to be scolded by a nun, this show is for you.
Actor Mary Zentmyer stars as the "Sister" in this one-woman comedy routine, in which the audience becomes the students following the lesson plan of a sometimes charming, sometimes frightful teacher.
Not just for Catholic school veterans, Late Night Catechism transcends religion and goes for laughs. The show runs Oct. 3 through 29 in the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Jaeb Theater. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $19.50 through $29.50. Call (813) 229-7827.
Talking about the music
Jeffrey Siegel is a pianist known for talking as well as playing. Siegel's "KeyboardConversations," in which he speaks informally about the works on his program prior to performing them, is a staple of the concert season in New York and other cities. His talk-and-play treatment of Rhapsody in Blue has been featured on PBS, and he'll be the soloist in the Gershwin favorite on the Florida Orchestra's first masterworks program of the season.
The rest of the program includes another work with Siegel at the keyboard -- Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini -- plus Ravel's Rhapsodie Espagnole, Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 and Alfven's Midsommarvaka. Performances are at 8 tonight at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 8 p.m. Saturday at Mahaffey Theater and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Tickets are $20-$38.
Siegel will give a preconcert talk one hour before each concert.
