WEIRD BAND NAME:
THE BAND: Ashes of Grisum.
WHAT'S UP WITH THE NAME: Astronaut Gus Grissom and two other astronauts perished in a fire aboard an Apollo spacecraft during a test run on Jan. 28, 1967. He had been quoted as saying, "The conquest of space is worth the risk of life." The band name is a tribute to Grissom. As for the different spellings of the names, AOG wanted to avoid copyright issues.
BAND HISTORY AND MEMBERS: The band originated in Tampa two years ago with different members other than poet Chris Temple, vocals, writer, rhythm guitar; Robert "Evil Bob" Moore, cello; Pete Adams, guitar; Anthony Reckhardt, drums; and Saletto, keyboards.
WHERE TO CATCH THEM: The Orpheum in Ybor City this Saturday at 9 p.m. Also scheduled to entertain in the Big Apple at the College Music Journal Festival in mid-October.
