Bands set to compete in a spectacle of soundBy Times staff writers © St. Petersburg Times, published September 30, 2000 SEMINOLE -- The Seminole Sound Spectacular high school band competition begins at 4:20 p.m. today at the Seminole High School football field. Seventeen bands are scheduled to compete in the free competition. Cost is $10 for adults; free for children under 5 and Pinellas County School employees with ID card. Ticket price includes parking next to the field, 86th Avenue N and 131st Street, Seminole. Field trips offered as part of birding festival Oct. 5-8CLEARWATER -- Field trips to Shell Key, Honeymoon Island, Egmont Key, Hillsborough River and Central Florida wetlands are available as part of the third annual Florida Birding Festival and Nature Expo. The event is slated for Oct. 5-8 at Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland St. The expo also will feature keynote speakers, seminars and workshops, a butterfly tent, fly fishing lessons and children's activities. Admission is free for teachers and students. Otherwise, it's $5 per person per day. Space on the field trips is limited and registration is required.
