Baseball/Softball

Players 55 and older are needed for teams in a senior citizen coed softball league.

Games are played year-round at Bicentennial Field No. 5 in Crystal River on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m. Those interested can apply at the field on game days or by calling 628-0663.

Citrus County Parks and Recreation will hold an organizational meeting Wednesday for teams interested in participating in a winter coed softball league. The meeting at field No. 5 in Bicentennial Park begins at 6:30 p.m. Each team should have one representative at the meeting. For information, call 795-6520.

Golf

The Crystal River High School Cheerleaders are in search of participants, sponsors and hole sponsors for their annual fundraising golf tournament, held Oct. 27 at El Diablo Golf and Country Club.

Local businesses are encouraged to become hole sponsors for a cost of $100, which will get a sign with the company name placed at a hole. Business are also being encouraged to donate raffle prizes for the tournament.

Cost of entry is $40 per person. For more information or to sponsor a hole or donate a raffle prize, contact either Kathy DeMoya (Event Chairman) at 795-3582 or 795-3383 or Joan Gerrits (Cheerleading Coach) at 795-2786.

Sheriff Jeff Dawsy is chairing the annual Golf for Kids-Sertoma Golf Tournament, scheduled for Oct. 12. All proceeds will be used to build the Tom Kane Dormitory at Camp Endeavor, a camp designed for speech and hearing impaired children.

The four-person scramble begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The event will be held at Citrus Hills. The cost is $50 per person. Hole sponsorships are available. For more information, call 726-9617.

Tennis

The Nature Coast Tennis Open will have singles and doubles tournaments for adults and juniors of various skill levels Oct. 6-7 in Spring Hill.

The entry fee is $20 for one tournament per event and $30 for two events and includes at least two matches per tourney, balls, a complementary T-shirt and prizes for all finalists.

Adult singles tournaments will be held for men and women in B level (3.5 NTRP and above), B-55 (55 and older) and C (3.0 NTRP and under) divisions. The junior singles tourneys will be comprised of Blue (experienced players), White (intermediate) and Red (young beginners) divisions. The adult and junior doubles fields will be set up the same way.

The event will be at several sites in the Spring Hill area, with the check-in point at Delta Woods Park off Deltona Blvd. The format is single elimination, with consolation matches for first-round losers. Consolation matches may include abbreviated scoring.

The registration deadline is Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. For information or to enter, call Strings & Things Pro Shop, 684-4321. Call on Oct. 4,1-8 p.m., for first-round starting times.
