SEMINOLE -- Learn the essentials of fire safety at the Seminole Fire Rescue Department's annual open house from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 at Fire Station 29, 11195 70th Ave. N.

The free open house, which kicks off National Fire Prevention Week, has the theme: "Fire Drills -- The Great Escape." Area residents can meet local firefighters and paramedics and tour the fire station. For kids, there will be interactive games, fire safety displays, clowns and an opportunity to sit in a fire engine.

The Seminole Fire Rescue Department also encourages citizens to develop and practice home escape plans. A "Great Escape" practice is scheduled at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in Seminole. Residents are encouraged to try their plans when local fire stations sound sirens and bells. For information, call Shanabrook at 393-8711.
