Counties still far apart on road plans

Hillsborough and Pasco are $200,000 apart on the realignment of County Line Road and disagree in principle over the Willow Bend Parkway project.

LUTZ -- Pasco County commissioners are sending County Administrator John Gallagher back to Hillsborough County to negotiate with officials there over the realignment of County Line Road with Collier Parkway.

This development comes a week after Hillsborough rejected Pasco's request that Hillsborough contribute $500,000 to the project, instead of the $300,000 Hillsborough offered with a simpler realignment in mind. The difference would pay for creation of a cul-de-sac in front of seven houses on the Pasco side of the road near the Livingston intersection.

Hillsborough had offered the $500,000, but only if Pasco agreed not to make Willow Bend Parkway four lanes, currently scheduled for 2010. At last week's vote, Pasco Commissioner Steve Simon rejected that idea: "The people of Hillsborough need to understand that they can't rewrite our comp (land use) plan for a couple hundred thousand in gain."

The two road plans are not related, but each has the potential to affect residents on the other side of the border.
